SEFIRA

SEFIRA project (2013-2016) has the objective of creating a European coordination of transdisciplinary scientific and socio-economic resources in order to support the review and implementation of air quality legislation by the European Commission (EC) led by DG Environment. The EC has now given increased attention to the socio-economic dimension of air quality policies in order to improve their effectiveness and acceptability. SEFIRA will coordinate some of the best scientific and socio-economic resources and will review air quality policies and legislation at the interface between environmental, economic and social sciences in order to achieve a deeper understanding of these complex issues. Individual behaviours and choices will be analysed in a socio-economic context ranging from the local to the European level. The main fields involved in the action will be atmospheric sciences, environmental and legal sociology, anthropology, geography and economics.

TRELAB develops a Discrete Choice Analysis (DCA) to analyse the public acceptability of air quality policies in order to support the EC in its review and implementation phases . Stated preference data are collected through a CATI method in 5 different countries (for a total of 5.000 interviews). Using the choice-based conjoint analysis, each respondent chooses between different alternatives described in term of attributes which, in turn, are characterized by a range of attributes-levels. Trading-off between the different attributes-levels, it is possible to analyse the individual policy acceptability, highlighting possible socio-economic and demographic differences.
